Chris and I are blessed with wonderful families, including our darling nieces, Maeve & Aine. They both celebrated birthdays recently, with the help of friends, family, face-painting, and a pink castle bouncy house. Cupcakes & Hoodsie cups rounded out the day nicely.
All my mom wanted for Christmas last year was a family photo. OK, I'm a photographer, I can do that. We waited until May to shoot it (on Mother's Day, how nice.) And Mom got a nice, big gallery wrap for her den. She joked that now she looks over and she feels like she can talk to us. At least, I hope she was joking!
the best part was how i got to run from behind the camera to my position in the back row, over and over again as the self-timer worked its magic.
Not too long ago I stumbled across the Best Camera app for my iPhone while browsing the App Store. What fun! I love the concept that "the best camera" is the one you have with you. (And frankly, I'm often just too lazy to go get my "real" camera for an impromptu shot or two.) I've been promising to post pictures of Gus and Martha for all my friends at American Boston Terrier Rescue, so here's a selection of recent "Best Cam" photos of the dynamic duo!
miss martha was frolicking on the sunny deck on one of last days as an only dog.
he even looks cute sideways! gus on his first day in MA. a bit concerned about the phone cam.
the first shot of the two together. gus was still very new with "stay," hence the stray foot in the back!
matha was p.o.'d that gus was hogging the lap space.
martha's not a big fan of the rain. or this raincoat. oh, well.
martha's defenses are breaking down...the first snuggly nap.
martha makes herself comfy. that's gus on the left.
gus gets his revenge several minutes later by using martha as a pillow.
soft toys have a shot lifespan around here these days. major tug-o-war going on.
she'll be really ticked off by the arrival of snow & ice, but martha sure does love her winter-time fires!
Martha celebrated her third birthday on May 8th! First we headed in to the South End to find the Polka Dog Bakery and pick out a little treat for the birthday girl to enjoy after dinner. Later, we visited Martha's favorite park for some fun & frolic.
We kicked off the month of May with a weekend trip to Martha's Vineyard, where Chris was participating in the Tour the Vineyard cycling event. This fantastic ride supports a cause that's near and dear to our hearts, funding research to find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Chris rode the 100k course again this year, and even beat his previous time by 30 minutes -- hooray! Along the way, he raised over $800 thanks to the generous donations of our friends, family and colleagues.
Tired but exhilarated at the finish line:
Naturally, one of his biggest fans was there to congratulate him:
Chris is already looking forward to the ride in 2010!
I have a lilac bush outside my kitchen window, and for weeks I've been watching these gorgeous blooms develop. Here they are on Friday, May 8th...just about full bloom (the remaining stragglers popped open today, hooray!).
What amazing progress from April 19, when they looked like this:
Those folks at the Arnold Arboretum have it nailed, today was Lilac Sunday!
Please join us in welcoming Martha, the newest member of the Conway family! We adopted Martha on Saturday through the Friends of Homeless Animals (RI) and American Boston Terrier Rescue (TX). She is a very sweet girl and a good cuddler, and is settling in nicely. Fresh Kitty has been asserting herself and making it clear to Martha that she is in charge here :-) Poor Molly Mittens is deathly afraid of Martha, but hopefully she'll warm up to her soon. This is the first picture I took of Miss Martha with the iPhone. I'm sure there will be many more to follow...
